Hi,

I recently got an hp z800 that I am upgrading into a budget gaming PC. The CPU it came with was super slow so I bought 2 xeon x5675 processors to replace it and use the dual processor capability.

The processors work fine, but hyper threading wasn't working even though it was enabled in the bios. I also tried updating the bios from v3.10 to the current revision, checked for bent pins and replaced the CPU with the second one (waiting for a second CPU cooler). None of these things helped at all, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Spoiler

  •  xeon x5675
  •  z800 main board rev 3
  • 12gb ddr3
  • evga gtx 670 4gb
  • delta 850 watt

I would wait for the second CPU cooler to arrive so you can test with all the components present. Xeon isn't really a platform where you should be jerry rigging things.

Wow thanks for the quick responses, the hp support forum took over 2 weeks and didn't even know what i was talking about.

I got the second heatsink today and installed the CPU, annnnnnnd More problems! Now the darn thing gets stuck at starting windows.

I'm going to make a different thread about THAT issue. Thanks anyway!
