I have two cards I can't decide about, and I want to know which has the most bang for the buck.

I could guess this, I'm more curious about bang for the buck.

If you're purchasing from Newegg, the 7850 is $135 (-$40 promo), whereas the 7870 is $190.

The 7870 is better, but in terms of bang-for-buck, the 7850 easily wins at that price. Without the -$40 promo, the 7870 for sure.

You're looking at a 20-30% (no more) performance improvement for 40% additional cost.

EDIT: I guess the best approach to take is to look at benchmarks for the game you want to play.

For example, BF3 at low graphics preset gets a 30% improvement from 7850 -> 7870. At high graphics, that becomes a 20% improvement.

For the price, I would still go 7850 - $135 is a steal.

Yeah, no. Anyways, overclock a 7850 and it will perform near a 7870.

Sweet. Now, before I add it to the list, with an FX-8350, and 8GB 1600MHz RAM, how will it do in BF4?

Sadly, I'll probably be using an old Dell 1280x1024 monitor with until I can afford a new one. But the new one will be 1080p.

Mobo, most probably overkill. Memory, sure you cant pick up cheaper 8gb sticks?

Storage: 2TB storage from seagate is pretty much cheaper than 2 drives.

Case: Huh... okay... if you have money for it.

PSU: overkill unless you want Crossfire later

WIth money you would save by picking less expensive components you could get better gpu.

You have no problem fitting 7970 (280x) in your budget.
