Will It Be A Problem?

Jogostar
Go to solution Solved by Recon-UK,

My MSI 790FX-GD70 has a clip missing on the 3rd slot i think, as long as the damage is only the clip and not the actual slot it's self, it is still safe to use, just ensure you screw down the GPU firmly, or use something to support it if it is a heavy card.

Hello Folks!

So I made a small/big mistake with my stupid big hands. :P

Today when I made some modifications to my PC I broke the little clip on the PCI slot.

Will this be a problem?

Pic of what clip I meant. sorry for the big picture. ^^

If you plan to put a card in there, then yes.

I plan to yes :o

not if it still locks alright. u may have some diffculties but nothing a human being cant do xD

So, it's only to hold the card in place, nothing essential?

It's a plastic clip. I don't recall plastic allowing the flow of electricity. So no.

You'll have an Issue with one end of the card possibly not sitting in the slot properly.

I tried to pout it in, and it looks alright to me, a little sag maybe, but not more then before. Let's hope it works, othewise, will it be ok to use the second PCi slot? @Recon-UK

The second slot is a wired 8x slot, it should be perfectly fine, there will be a very tiny performance impact by using an 8x slot, but nothing you will notice in the real world.

well afaik the 660ti only has a small bandwith anyway, and with Ivy 8x is like 16x right?^^

Ahh yes when taking into consideration the 3RD Gen certification, you will effectively be running PCI-E Gen 2.0 x16 speeds at PCI-E 3.0 x8.

No performance issues what so ever.

Not at all. I broke the clip off the motherboard I am using currently because it was a nuisance. It is only there to support heavy cards, but it isn't really necessary.
