M.2 Boot Drive

Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

If it's the same price as SATA drives of the same capacity, it wouldn't hurt to grab it. But keep in mind you really won't see much of a performance bump over a SATA SSD in most situations if you already use a SATA SSD.

So I'm looking to get an SSD as a boot drive and I've been looking at the m.2 form factor since my motherboard (Asus Crosshair VI) has a m.2 slot. The one that I've seen at a good price is the Corsair Force MP500 120GB. The reason that I want to use m.2 is because my motherboard supports it and most 120-128GB SSD SATA are in the same price range, so why not take advantage of the faster read/write speeds. My question to you all is, is this a good boot drive SSD or are there better/cheaper ones?

I'm willing to discuss any options you're willing to provide.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmm interesting, I have the Crucial MX100 SSD which has a read/write speed of 550/150 Mbps respectively. Do you think the upgrade will show some difference?

If we're strictly talking about application loading and performance, no, not really.

The only time I can see it be better is if you have load large files into RAM for some reason.

Since I will be using this as a Windows boot drive, it doesn't sound like it's going to make a difference, which is great to hear now I don't have to spend money, yay! xD Thank you.
