PC Part Picker said that my processor, i3 4170, doesn't work with my motherboard, msi itx h81i, can someone give me the reason why they say this. I found on other web sites that it dose work. thank you for the info.

I see no reason why it should not work. Only problem would be a possible need for a bios update if the chip was devils canyon, but that i3 4170 is not.

it doesnt say wont work, it just gives you caution that some mobo might need bios update.

Its literally at the bottom of the page  the bios is too old on the motherboard, but an update with a 3rd gen processor would fix that

So what do i need to do? I only bought that processor. Again thanks for your help.
