Hello,

I am trying to pass through my quadro 2000 to a windows 7 VM in virtual box. I am not sure of how to set up the pass through. Does the hardware support this? What VM software will support this?

My system:

Ubuntu 14.04

FX-6300

ASRock Pro3-R2

12 GB RAM

Nvidia 210 (primary display)

Quadro 2000 (no display)

Thank you

It has been my, admittedly limited, experience that GPU passthrough doesn't work well, if at all, on any VM I've worked with. Bear in mind some VMs are rather pricey and might have working hardware acceleration, but the cheap/free ones....no dice.

Supposedly Oracle's VirtualBox has GPU passthrough, but no one I've read about has gotten it to work.

VMs are great for server virtualization, less so for desktop ones (I'm in the same boat as you are, I'm trying to consolidate some desktops at work and keep running into this issue)

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I would try using another main OS as your host hypervisor. Or do some research on installing and using KVM in ubuntu. Virtualbox's PCI passthrough is not production ready, and I have never been able to get it to work. I have used PCI passthrough with Proxmox, unraid, as well as ESXI with great success
