hello,

im planning to upgrade my pc

im going for a ryzen 5 1600 with a xfx rx 480 gtr and 8 gigs of ram. my question now is how much watt wil i be needing for my pc?.

You could probably get by with a 450w.  You can plug your parts into a Parts List at http://pcpartpicker.com and it'll give you a wattage estimate.

I'd recommend the Corsair CX450M on the low budget side up to the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 on the higher side.

PSU Tier List Updated

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x  Board: Asus PRIME X570-P  Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8) DDR4-3000  Case: Fractal Design Define S

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070  SSD: HP EX950 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME  HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM

PSU: SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Platinum 750W  Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4  Monitor: Viotek GFT27DB 27.0" 2560x1440 144 Hz

I tend to consult the Tier List I linked, as I'm no expert on PSUs.  It's a bit further down the list than I'd personally prefer, but it should work.  Perhaps it could give you a goal as something to update when budget permits.

No, it's rather bad since it's a unit designed for basic builds. If you're upgrading, you might as well upgrade the PSU as well.

Get the aforementioned Corsair CX450M.

A Seasonic Focus Plus 550W can be found for a pretty good price as well as a Corsair TX550M.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

A good 400-550W PSU is more than sufficient.
