Coding is writing bunch of text save it and then compile it, any laptop could do

cheap thinkpad X220 (or a T420 if you don't mind the extra weight and bulk) with at least an i5-2520m, add 8gb of ram and an SSD, there's no point in spending more than £200 on a laptop for school, as it'll either be nicked or broken, and thinkpads have the advantage of looking hideous and ancient to normies, and spare parts are more common than the laptops.

a used thinkpad with 2nd or 3rd gen i7, you can pick one up for cheap on ebay.

Sorry, I'm going to be coding mostly C# (this year) in school. I will be using Visual studio 2013 community.

Neither, try to find a quad-core (HQ) for your budget. Lenovo Thinkpads and Dell Inspirons are good choices to start your search.

I'm not finding many. Lenovo's Amazon page might have a few refurbished models with very good specs for the budget.

Thanks for asking, I do not know. But I doubt you need a quad core for programming.

I'm not finding anything either. Programming is taxing once you start running the code. 

 

@ItsRyan I'm going to vote for the Ideapad since Lenovo [and Dell don't] have much for your budget.

coding is not demanding at all only if you use 3d designing and high demanding apps

The thing about coding is that many people believe that it is really demanding, but actually it is not. 

I've seen a lot of software developer running macbook air. 

 

Anyway I think you should at least have a SSD and 8GB of ram. Not because of coding, but because of the research you need to do. 

 

Coding is challenging but super rewarding. Take it slowly, you will see yourself improving overtime.
