Hi guys I'm new to the forum, so I just bought a cheap  graphics card RX 460 2GB and I'm not getting the full potential (about 40-60%) with an amd fx-6100, I know its a old and pretty bad cpu but I tought it will do fine with the rx 460. So is it just a bottleneck or is it something else and whats a good buget upgrade. Thanks

Specs:

CPU AMD FX-6100 3.3 GHZ

GPU: RX 460 2 GB

MB: ASRock 960GM-GS3 FX (AM3+ SOCKET)

RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1600 HMZ

PSU: GIGATECH 550W

Get a Ryzen 3 1200, the RX 460 is definently being bottlenecked by the 6100's abysmal single core performance. If you need something even cheaper consider an Athlon X4 950 which also uses the AM4 socket and shouldn't bottleneck the RX 460.

whats your testing methodology here

how are you determining that it's the cpu that's preventing the card from working well?

becuase unless your cpu is at 100% load then your cpu isn't a bottleneck.

That isn't necessarily true. If the game isn't spawning enough threads to fill up the cores, you can still be bottlenecked even before you hit 100% load. This can mean the game relies more on single threaded performance.

GTAV is a victim of this.

I really should find the post, but someone pointed me to an article showing that GTAV spends most of its time issuing about four threads whereas Ashes of the Singularity spends most of its time issuing as many as it can.

Would suggest against the A320 board and he needs RAM, but I agree for the most part.

idk

He doesn't NEED RAM, Ryzen supports DDR3, however it might be a good idea to get some DDR4. I went with the A320 cause he sounds like he is on a tight budget.

The x4 950 is a bad cpu. ITs not really worth it as the R3 1200 is the same price and is way better. The g4560 and 1200 wipe out every budget cpu

A320??? Why? Would rather spend extra $30 and get b350 for overlockability. He dosent need more ram...dont be those "16gb is normal now" guy....

Read. I said 'Suggest against', and OP has DDR3 which isn't possible for use on Ryzen.

idk

Oh sorry I used msi afterburner with the overlay specs showing and the cpu was around 60-70% and gpu like I said 30-40%

So if I go with a Ryzen 3 I would need a new motherboard am4 socket, cant find the Athlon X4 950 in my country if its an option, motherboards here are a bit more expensive and A320M is the lowest mb with a am4 socket. How about the fx-8350 or 8320 are they still good? or get a i5 and a new motherboard?

Ty for your suggestions.
