My GPU is not recognized by my OS + Artifacts all over the place. please help

Go to solution Solved by MightyBooty :^),

Give underclocking the gpu core and memory a shot, if it's not the drivers or display there's a 95% chance your gpu is bricked. Only card I've ever had that's done that was a old dead Geforce MX2. It's more than likely ram or a problem with the ROM cause it looks like it's having a problem reading the BIOS. I would try it with a different PC if you can, to make sure it's not the motherboard however it looks done for unless you know someone that can replace the BIOS ROM. If you can find older gpus looks for a gtx 770,780, 970 (1060 performance) if you can find it cheap. HD7870 (Same performance as the 460 so you had a decent card still),7950,7970, r9 280x, r9 285, r9 380, r9 380x. all fantastic performing cards for 1080p.

So here's the problem.

My PC crashed while watching a youtube video+checking e-mails and the screen went white as soon as I rebooted it.

Thinking that my display died, I tested it on my brother's PS3...fortunately it's completely fine, but the problem was still there...

I re-installed everything to see if a fresh windows build fixed anything...And it didn´t :D

Here's a list of what's going on:

1- My OS thinks that my GPU is an ATOMBIOS.

2- I get red (sometimes white) bars on my screen.

3- I only get an image if I use the bottom DVI port on the GPU.

4- Even the BIOS screen is corrupted and shows artifacts all over the place, making it close to unreadable.

5- My PC crashes horribly as soon as the OS tries to display the "log in" screen when I install *any* drivers (even the one on the CD that comes with the GPU)

6- For some reason, the second fan on the card does not work unless I set the fan speed at 80+%. (something I cannot do right now, due to the previous issue).

Here's my rig + OS:

AMD FX 4100 Stock

Sapphire DUAL-X OC HD7870 2gb DDR5 (SKU:  11199-19-20G)

Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb DDR3 Kit @ 1600Mhz

Gigabyte GA 970a UD3 (BIOS version: F7)

Sentey Extreme Rock Power 600 ss. 600w

Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

This is the first time I face a problem like this... it just...broke, I don't know what to do.

Things I've tried:
Unplugging my GPU from the motherboard and plugging it back in.

Plugging the GPU on the 4x slot.

Did my GPU die?

P.S.: The only "good" GPU I can get is the RX 560/460 (2gb)... I have an *extremely* tight budget. Food expenses + bills are killing me.

Nvidia is out of the question (People are asking for ridiculous prices for a 660ti or any other "old" GPU from the green team)

Here are some pictures showing the issue + a *.txt file of the "error" that the AMD driver says It's having...

I could give the BIOS fix a go.
I found a guide on tom's hardware + a BIOS collection

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2288384/upgrade-gpu-bios.html

https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=AMD&manufacturer=Sapphire&model=HD+7870&interface=&memType=GDDR5&memSize=2048&since=

I'll give it a try (but i'll search for the nvidia models you told me about.. hopefully I can find a seller that's somewhat reasonable when it comes to pricing)

but yeah, I think this gpu is dead orz (I bought it used like 4 years ago.. so I'd say it has reached its end)

UPDATE:

So I took my GPU to a friend's house, aaaaaand my GPU seems to be broken (maybe a loose chip...)

Flashing the bios does nothing.. and testing it on a brand new system (with an 850w PSU) displays the same broken AF image...

The only thing I could do, is ye old "stick the gpu on an oven or point a heat gun at it for a while until I can weld the chip back".

1- I've never done that and I do not trust myself to do it (so i'd have to take it to an specialist).

2- I can only throw money at my PC once for now. (too many bills to pay+food expenses)

In terms of availability, I cannot find the models you told me about.. (the very few folks selling a 780 are asking WAY too much, and my budget is super tight this year)

So i'll just go for an rx 550 2gb or a 460 2gb now. And get a new PSU + UPS down the road.

P.S.: The Argentinian market is f*** up. Gaming on a budget is not easy... (Not too much to choose from + The prices are practically the same + NVidia is a lot more expensive than AMD). GOD BLESS MY CURRENCY
