Hey guys! I recently got into twitch streaming and have been doing a ton of research on the setup for my stream. So, I have a few question I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with. To give some pre-information before the questions:

Gaming rig:

6700k cooled with nzxt kraken x82

32GB of DDR4 2400 RAM

GTX 1080TI cooled by EVGA hybrid kit

960 pro 1TB SSD

all in a corsair 570X crystal case

HP Omen x35 Curved Ultrawide Display at 3440 x 1440 @ 100 Hz

Current setup for streaming is the gaming rig has an legato HD60 Pro capture card that I use to stream console games easily. I have 3 consoles plugged into an HDMI switcher to switch quickly between all the consoles. I am currently using OBS to stream. I would like to keep the ultrawide because of the screen realestate I have for the windows I keep open during stream. I run my games at a "thinner" 16:9 aspect and place stream info windows on each side of the game window and have OBS capture just the game window where I stream at 720p currently.

Now to the questions....

1. I'm considering setting up a 2nd PC for just streaming stuff so, if I plug the gaming PC into the capture car AND the ultrawide and the duplicate displays wont it choose the lowest resolution from say the capture card and force the ultrawide into a lower resolution?

2. If so is there a way around this?

3. When building the second streaming PC, I have a 3770k sitting around I can use. Do I need to run a dedicated GPU for this setup?

4. For streaming the consoles, I use the elgato software " Game Capture HD" to display the console through the main PC. Is there a way to still have this run through my gaming rig without buying a second capture card so I can keep this easy?

5. is running a 2nd PC for just stream stuff even worth putting in the effort?

6. If I run a game at the full 21:9 aspect and just shrink the screen size into a 16:9 aspect (within the OBS software) it should stream just fine at 720 correct? Or would you guys think it just look too weird to the viewers?

I'm sorry if this was long....just have a lot of question I'm trying to figure out >.<

Any and all help is appreciated! And if there is something you would recommend I would love to know!

1: Not sure... don't have ultrawide.

2: n/a

3: A GPU will always make real-time video encoding/streaming faster. Something low would be fine (950, 1050, RX 460, etc.)

4: I don't think so. You will need something else (Elgato Cam Link, etc.)

5: A 7700K is more than capable... start with just that - expand if you really to.

6: 21:9 downscaled to fully fit within a 1280x720 canvas will leave black bars. If you are streaming, it's better to play at the native 16:9.

Hope some of this is helpful :)

1. kk

2.N/A

3. Ok so wont be setting up the stream PC as a Mini-ITX then >.<

4. That suck

5. do you mean that with my current setup I wouldn't notice much difference running a 2nd PC?

6. It wouldn't really be "Downscaling" I think. What I have tried, and the base canvas set to my untra wide resolution, the OBS preview screen set to 1080p and the stream output to 720p. What I do is resize the 21:9 window in the OBS screen (like I would for a chatbox or cam window for example) to fit within the OBS preview display. So yes there would be a black bar or "blank space" but the idea for that would be to fill the blank space with info like recent follow/donations and a box that shows the live chat for the stream. Since I am able to move the game window in the preview around. You still think there would be any issues of any kind with this?

Referring to the resizing - that's fine. Wasn't aware you were going to do that. It never hurts to have a dedicated streaming machine, but I would see how your gaming PC handles gaming/streaming at the same time before you invest in another PC.

Perfect! I have been streaming like this off and on for a few months now and haven't noticed anything major honestly...just after looking stuff up online about setups, I found a lot of people saying you could be taking a hit on performance running it all on one rig. Which, I have seeing my 6700k get to around 75% (maybe a little higher sometimes) when doing all of this at once.

Plus....it would allow me to use some of the older hardware I have laying around my house so my wife stops bugging me about what I'm going to do with it all lol
