Hey guys back on the used market hunting for another project since my Ryzen system is complete thanks to the lit guys and girls of the LTT forum and i came across a Dell E520 now i remember from seeing these in the past that dell specifies they only take 4gb of ram max which is unfortunate since i have a *small* obsession with old Dells and the core 2 quad gaming era so i skipped it and went to a 755 optiplex. Now that another one has popped up again and my 755 optiplex rig has a dead board i started looking around again and found a video by Modstek that shows him upgrading an E520 to 8gb fine and Crucial's website states that it can take 4x2gb sticks meaning there's a chance i could get my watercooled q6600 gtx 480 lan party pc back up and running for the same price of another 755 board.
so really in short what i'm asking is can anyone can confirm this is a legit thing and Dell for some reason listed them only taking 4gb (maybe a marketing thing to make buyers go for their higher end models?)

I know this is an old (4 year old) thread, but I can say with authority that the E520 will take 8 Gb of RAM. I have 8Gb of DDR2 800MHz installed in my E520, along with an Intel QX6800 Core 2 Extreme Quad Core CPU. I am running Windows 7 64 bit on an SSD hard drive with an AMD HD 7850 graphics card. The whole plot works perfectly. This unit is at least as good as a lot of the gaming rigs on the market out there and it cost me half the price beause the components are old (i.e. not the latest thing). I wojn't need to upgrade for quite I while given the performance I am seeing from this.
