My laptop has a 4GB stick in it, that apparently can't be taken out due to it being soldered in, but it has an empty slot for upgrading...

So do I get another 4GB for dual channel or get a 8GB stick take it up to the max 12GB (that the manufacturer's website says it supports) in single channel?

Could I get an expert to de solder it and get two 6GB sticks? (just throwing stuff at the wall here...)

Best bet is to get a 4gig stick or only get a 8gig stick if you 100% sure the manufacturer alows it, does the current memory have a brand??

No idea, I think I'm going to go for dual channel anyway... I can't unscrew it myself anyway, so I don't know what speed the RAM is so will need to do that before looking. I found this on Crucial's website. http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/ideapad-310-(15-inch)
