i just got a monitor thats 144hz 1080p and i know that it needs hdmi 1.3 or higher but idk if i have a hdmi 1.3 cable or not i have 3 different hdmi cables and a hdmi to dvi (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2CE5AS4590&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-_-Home+Electronics+Accessories-_-9SIA2CE5AS4590&gclid=CjwKCAjw87PNBRBAEiwA0XAIr0RxfvlicT4V_9JgAdEo0CKyCrtVu7TYXavGXzoF_uxKmvE352RqFRoCnfwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

 

but thats the only one i know is there a way to test if these will run 144hz

usually the cables for different generations of the same port are the same. it works like that with SATA, and as far as I know most other cables as well. so as long as the cables are not shitty, they should work. just pick the one that looks like it has a good quality.

The cable is not the concern. There is no such thing as an "HDMI 1.3 cable", cables are not classified by version. What you need is a High Speed HDMI cable, which is pretty much any HDMI cable, it would be difficult to find any cables lower than High Speed being manufactured today. So practically any HDMI cable will be sufficient for 1080p 144 Hz.

 

What you need to check is not the cable, but the monitor support. 1080p 144 Hz can be run over HDMI 1.3 or higher but many monitors will not support more than 60 Hz over HDMI, even if they have HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 ports. You need to research and buy a monitor that supports 144 Hz over HDMI.

so if i have https://pcpartpicker.com/product/cZwqqs/asus-vg278hv-270-144hz-monitor-vg278hv and iv tried all my hdmi cables one of them says high speed on them that just means that the hdmi connector on my monitor doesnt support 120hz? if this is true should i buy as dual link dvi ? which would you recommend ? and would it even work with the build i have ? Unlikely the monitor supports 120 Hz over HDMI, you'll need to use a Dual-Link DVI cable.
