What went wrong?

khazad
Go to solution Solved by tikker,

I had the same issue installing my R1 Ultimate on my Z97 board. The screws barely reached. I managed by pushing hard and first getting all the screws to just grip the thread and then tightening further. It took a scary amount of force though :/

I can't put my CPU cooler (Cryorig H7) on my motherboard (MSI z270 Gaming M3).

I've put the backplate just fine, but the screws can't reach the Xbar screw threads of the cooler.

If i place one screw on one screw thread of the cooler, the other screw needs to be like half cm to reach the other screw thread.

That's what scares me haha, i don't wanna use too much force.

I think that board has an elevated socket, like the Gigabyte 970A-D3P I used to have. Cryorig is a relatively new company, and it seems to lack support for elevated sockets. Best is to return and grab something else. Please correct me if I am wrong here.

edit: I got it onto that board I mentioned by having a friend push it down and me screwing it in. Didn't damage the board (ultra-durable rated) but you better not try doing it. it fits perfectly on my P6t deluxe, but not another board my friend has (forgot what model, but 90% sure its elevated socket).

Just figured it out, i needed to press the Xbar thing on the cooler so they come a little bit together

If the H7 comes with the same mounting bars as the R1 Ultimate, then make sure they are not being placed upside down.

While the bars will fit the mounting bracket/screws onto the motherboard itself, the screw-holes for the heatsink will be elevated on 1 side, and NOT on the other.

The bars that has the screw threads on the cooler can be pushed together (from the wider side), out of the box it comes "closed".
