Alternative cooling method?

First, let me start off by saying that I don't know what sub-forum this should be posted in.

Anyway, I just finished building my first PC, with the exception of the GPU and Cooler. Anyway, I am currently about $20 short of getting a high-end cooler, and the nearest place to me that sells regular air coolers is about 45 minutes away. I am too young to drive, sadly....

Anyway, I've tried asking my parents to loan me some money to no avail.

So, my question to you, is how can I cool my i7-7700k? There is no overclock.

I have a heat sink for a Pentium 4 laying around, however, it is literally an aluminum block will holes in it.

To be honest, I don't know how I could mount it.

I just need the CPU to stay in the "usable temp," range.

Thanks :)

(by the way, all I'll be doing is installing Win 10 on it.)

Can you order one online, I would recommend the hyper 212 Evo as a cheap solution.

CPU: Ryzen 1700@3.9ghz; GPU: EVGA 560 Ti 1gb; RAM: 16gb 2x8 Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000; PCPP: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3xzzM

Make a kind of 'funnel' covering the CPU and use liquid nitrogen/ice? It will work but condensation maaay kill the CPU. :P

JAZIGqx.jpghe cant afford a cooler and  you think he can get a cooling pot and liquid nitrogen, plus where would he get those if he can't drive

DIY bro. :D Plastic cup/bottle and ice (empty periodically).

Have you ever performed this successfully? And also the risk of condensation makes this impractical.

kidding and joking aside.

You are going to need to MacGyver this one.

Step one, take inventory. Tools common and makeshift. Items and supplies. Make sure a healthy amount of common sense is available.

Step two, define a goal. In this case taking heat from a CPU and dumping it somehow.

Step three, start mentally putting everything you have on the CPU and ruling out why they work or don't and, classify them with pros and cons.

Step four, start taking your best ideas and fitting them in physically. Repeat rolling out and the Pros/Cons.

Step five, Proceed with your best idea and try it.

Step six, Have patience; save the extra $20, and ask someone to drive you.

All kidding aside for real this time: Your best bet is the cooler you have just not hard mounted. Leave the system on its side and let the cooler rest on the CPU with some thermal grease. If you find there is little to no contact due to the socket cooler mount then use some coins (larger the better) and a lot of thermal grease to fill in the gaps. If it's a type of cooler you can lay something on top of and still have it work great, put some weight (NOT MUCH) on it and let it sit. Employ a box fan for added air flow (if you have one). But still, see step six.

Well, I managed to do it! Using a heat sink from an old computer I had lying around, a bit of thermal paste, a Corsair AF120 I got for my computer and a stock fan from the first computer, I managed to keep temps below 60c! Actually, I'm typing this message on my computer with the makeshift heat sink!
