Help with tv audio while streaming/casting

Hey there! So just got the Vizio M55 and it's awesome! The one issue I'm having is when I stream apps like Netflix the audio doesn't output to my connect speakers - they are connected through optical. When streaming on Xbox and watching cable the audio outputs correctly but when using the smart tv function it doesn't seem to work - any ideas?

is opt hooked to stereo theatre system

is tv apps have sound settings?

is tv settings set to output thru optical by default?

I have powered speakers that have optical inputs - my tv is connected directly to speakers via optical. The tv is outputting to the speakers on every other source so I don't think that would change when using an app. I am technically "casting" using the tablet/remote that came with it - could that be the issue?
