So, I'm looking for a power supply for my WHS 2011. Current specs are as listed:

(Dell Enterprise Grade Workstation)

Intel Pentium D @ 3.6Ghz

1TB WD Caviar Green

120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD

Dell 300-350 Watt PSU

What I plan on doing is doing my own server build this summer. Here are my ideas for that so far: (Subject to change)

Fractal Design Define R4 (It's going to be very visible) :p

Intel Core i5 3570?

Some Sort of Mid-Range Motherboard

LSI MegaRaid 9260-4i

4 to 6 WD Red 3TB Drives

120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD

And for the power supply.......

What PSU would you recommend getting that would work for the build I am planning? (Don't say Corsair AX 1200i)

I need to get it fairly quickly before I kick my server out of a window. The loud squeaking noise makes me suicidal (not really, but kinda) Seriously though, it's coil whine with BAD Turrets.

So, what PSU would you recommend? My preferred brand is Corsair, but any reliable brand works for me. Keep in mind that this does not have to be server grade, just reliable and quiet.

Addressing the fact that I have a Dell motherboard, yes it does use a standard ATX PSU, so any standard power supply works.

Thanks in advance,

AndrewReaganM

First of all, as far as your server specs, you're not going to be able to run those 6 WD reds off of that lsi raid card. It only has one sff-8087 connector, which equates to only 4 drives, not 6. To run more than 4 drives off of it you need a sas port expander such as this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816117207&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Controllers+%2f+RAID+Cards-_-N82E16816117207&gclid=CM71uOLSnrYCFQjhQgodiicAMw

For a server like that you're only going to need a 400-500W unit. Unfortunately corsair doesn't have a high end unit in that wattage range, only stuff like the CX series, which is fine if you want to go corsair, but the CX units (if I remember correctly) are OEM'd by Channel Well, which makes good stuff but not the greatest. I would go with a seasonic unit. For a server you'll probably want the efficiency and it sounds like noise really bothers you so you might want to go with one of their fanless platinum units. They're definitely pricey, but they're rock solid.

I realize the card won't support 6 drives, hence I put the "4 to 6" next to the drives... :p I really don't want to spend too much on a PSU, so I will probably just go for a mid-range Seasonic, or something.

Thanks,
