Hey everyone, I just got a new pc with an i5 7400 and an RX 480 4gb. I've been noticing that in one of my favourite games, PUBG, I can't run any settings stable above low. So I'm not sure if there is a bottleneck or if my GPU is not good enough.. my friend has an Rx 480 8gb and runs 60fps ultra, but I don't think The extra 4gbs would make that much of a difference?

I think I know your issue, because I have an RX 470 myself with an i5-6500. To start, there is no bottleneck. Not even close. However, check MSI AB while in game. For me, I couldn't even run CS:GO above 60fps (wasn't capped). I figured out that my GPU was locking itself at 300MHz on the core and memory.

A. your friend is lying, because I can't run it 1080p ultra on a 1070 (it runs, but not >60 guaranteed, smoothly though). B. it runs like arse on AMD GPU's, and C. it uses a shitton of memory (both vram and ram). Do you have 8GB of memory?

I have 8gb of RAM but 4gb of Vram. I can run Rainbow six at ultra no problem.

I doubt that's the issue because I went into AB and it looked normal

What does it matter you can run a completely different engine at ultra? This isn't rainbow six, this is also not even remotely the same scale of datastreaming size.

The game requires 16GB of RAM at the moment for fluent gameplay. Either wait for patches of upgrade RAM.

So it's the game having bad optimization?

It's early acces? The game runs pretty well to be honest. You just need 16GB of ram. Friend of mine runs it on a i7-860 stock + GTX 960. It ran like arse, told him just to stick 16GB in there and it now runs perfectly.

Really? I didn't think ram would make that much of a difference. So you think If I get more ram I'll be good?

Most likely, yes. Unless there is something else wrong. It won't hurt either way. On medium graphics I see the RAM usage go over 9GB in afterburner.

But if you want a better analysis I need more data. Check my sig (the i5 debate) for screenshots on what I'm aiming for.

You can record them with afterburner.

Hey, so I noticed that the game is not using over 80% of my memory (I have 8gbs). If the game requires 16gb wouldn't it be using more?

Nah that's why it's running so poorly, it's culling data and refetching it. Windows will never allow the system to run out of memory.

disable the hdd pagefilesystem and try running game

direct pagefilesystem to a different hdd to offload hdd access/wait times

You're suggesting he turns off pagefile on a game already running out of memory?

Dude, it will just crash to desktop.

No it will most definitely not.

No because Windows is protecting your system from BSOD'ing. It will never max out, hence the huge pagefile.
