So i have had this xfx rx 480 rs 8Gb gpu for a couple of months now and it heats up quite a bit to 80c during overwatch where it only once restarted my pc. I turned down my settings to high preset and the temps would be around 75 to 76c. At idle my gpu is at 50 to 54c. I downloaded msi afterburner to better moniter the gpu temps, not sure what the issue is. Also to mention when i downloaded the afterburner the swicthes were tunred all the way down i just thought that was unusual.

The way the gpu is designed is for the fans to spin when its under load. i would like to know what recommended settings i should have for it to be better optimized if at all.

Whoa, your GPU runs hot. My Strix 980 TI with no fans spinning idles at 34c...

Is this is a reference card? If so make sure it has some damn good intake airflow. If not, make sure your case has proper airflow. It seems to me that your GPU is suffocating.

If neither of those are your issues, take the cooler off your GPU and reapply the thermal compound.

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

With that card it could be only one of 3 problems, bad card(VERY VERY unlikely), bad airflow in the case or thermal compound. It is more likely bad airflow in the case though.

Huh. My Sapphire runs cooler than that with the fans off.

Looks to me like bad airflow or the cooling solution is meh (though I've heard a lot of praise for the XFX card)

No its not a reference card is a xfx with 2 fans and it should have enough airflow. But ill let you be the gudge. There is a fan at the bottom front pulling air in you just cant see it in this view. the case is a Phanteks P400 glass display.

I'd consider replacing the thermal compound on it.

I'd have two fans in the front of the case and place the exhaust on the top rear of the case.

okey ariflow should be a problem since the case is very open and only thing producing heat inside looks like the gpu. Yeah i would try replacing the thermal compound.

How about setting your own fan curve? Make the fans go faster than stock fan curve do.

Also, somehow your card has locked BIOS? Wierd.
