What do youy have now? I'm fully convinced that the Volta consumer line is going to be the best baked GPU launch in years (since NV can safely gloat so much), but I have no proof of that.

Maybe a used 980TI since when overclocked its pretty much a 1070. Also it depends on your monitor resolution/refreshrate and the type of games you play.

not many people sell their 980 ti as it is still kind of in the high end of gaming so if i were to buy it brand new it would just be better to get a 1070.

Right ?

Upgrade to an i7 (any i7) first, your i5 will bottleneck a 1070 in most games (especially at 1080p)

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

nope, workstation only is a bit of a  relic myth.  Modern games (GTA5 included) easily use 6 threads and often more when you factor in background stuff

Why are you not recommending Ryzen?

Wait and see what Coffee lake has to bring in the next couple weeks before thinking about upgrading your CPU

The CPU market is going to be on a halt until we see if the rumors about Intel's coffee lake are going to be true. Intel's Single Thread speed with Ryzen's multi thread speed in the Coffee lake platform

That would be crazy good unless prices are above current prices. Also OP will have to get a new motherboard for coffee lake.

There's no reason you couldn't play new games on a 1050Ti.
