From the start I did get random freezes in games but after upgrading my BIOS to the latest version (about a month ago) and having the latest nVidia drivers I still occasionally get the random game freeze. It happens in any game roughly 1-2 times a day (10 hours+ of gaming).

At this point I have no idea what it might be or what is causing this issue. Does anyone know a tool to see what's happening when a game freezes?

Freeze as in crash - or just stuttering? Personally I'd try changing the slots that your ram is in; for its easy and free to do - and a good thing to eliminate as a problem.

Freeze as in stop working visually. I still hear the game and it sounds like it keeps running. Like if I'm fighting I hear myself die because I can't do anything. Controls also stop working. I need to force quit it with task manager. Why would changing ram slots fix this problem?

According to the manual of my motherboard I should insert the ram in slot A2 and B2 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/Z170-A/E10611_Z170-A_UM_V2_WEB.pdf, page 20 or 1-8) which I have done.
