Incoming Student, Laptop Advice?

So I have a gaming desktop computer, and it will continue to play basically anything I would want to for the foreseeable future. I would like to ask you guys for some advice on laptops, my budget is probably around $1000 and I do not have any real demands then: good battery life, fan less (preferable), webcam, SSD, Wifi, bluetooth if possible :). This would also be used for mostly reports and programming.

Don't plan to play any games on this (though gaming in general is on the decline for me). Thank you for your help

How hardware intensive are your programming things? Big, hulking masses, or just a few things to make your life easier?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Nothing big, just stuff I'll be throwing together in classes; any heavy lifting would be done by my desktop.

Whichever one is less likely to be crushed in my backpack between textbooks lol

Yeah, but hoping to use it for a lot more than just university :P

OP, just another question.

Do you want windows, or are you fine with a high-end chromebook?

Haha lol. (but aren't macbooks more than $1000?)

If you're willing to take a bit of a hit on the CPU, there's this Thinkpad beast with 16GB of RAM.

I converted $1000 CAD to about £610 so I've looked off UK prices, but hopefully it falls within your budget. Basically read through a few articles and the Asus ZenBook UX310UA poped up a few times. There is an i5 and i7 version available, depending on what you want :)

Current Build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 // Mobo: Ryzen AM4 B350 GAMING PLUS ATX // RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz // GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 580 Gaming 8GB // SSD: Kingston A400 120GB // HDD: 3 x WD Blue 1TB // PSUCorsair 650M // Case: Corsair 450D // Monitor: LG Ultrawide 29" IPS

Yeah but she said she would foot the remaining cost if it was a macbook.
