Alrighty, so, I'm rocking this old 2013 Edition Kindle Fire HDX 7" thing and I love it. Nabbed it for $200 brand new, no issues way back then, and I'm starting to see that it's just... too held back by both the rather limiting OS and the fact that it's just... old. If I upgraded to a newer tablet, I'd have to match what this brought to the table:

+ Good Screen

+ Equal or Faster CPU (shouldn't be hard)

+ Good Battery Life

I've got an upper ceiling of $300 to work with for my purchase price. It does NOT have to be current generation as I know even the 8.9" Fire HDX sits at a level a good deal higher than my 7" model. The main two things I REALLY need out of a tablet are the screen to be jaw-dropping (the 7" HDX has a 100% sRGB display at around 300ish nits), and for the battery to not be garbage, or at least be good enough for 6ish hours of constant use, if that's even plausible, which I figure it should be since my laptop can almost do that no problem.

Otherwise, would it be worthwhile for me to just... root this Kindle out and put a real copy of Android OS on there? o.O

i think the best tablets are the ipad mini and the nvidia shield.

I have both.

shield is better for games.

ipad is better for everything else as the 4:3 ratio is very good at that size and it still has the retina screen density.

shield has an hdmi cable so you can play games on a bigger screen.

i cant think of anything else, except the ipad has a much better battery. I can watch videos all day long on the ipad.

So... what would be a proper price-point I should start looking at? I'm not in the market to spend $800 on a damn tablet either, so none of that iPad bullshit. My laptop was $800 and I BARELY managed that, so... maybe $400... but tablets shouldn't cost much more than that imo...

You decide the proper price point. A good tablet can definitely be had for $300. Have you looked at the options I mentioned?

Admittedly I haven't, I just don't understand why tablets have to cost near as much as a laptop these days while doing substantially less. :/
