Can I use this RAM on my R720?

It will yes but if you need to go over the 64GB mark per CPU check the manual carefully. I know on my IBM server to get the maximum memory configuration you have to use 1.5v Dual Rank memory.

 

Also if you put 3 DIMMs in per channel the ram will down clock to 800Mhz if 1.35v (Low Voltage) or 1066Mhz if 1.5v.
