Get this gpu?

Guest

So there is a 90 dollar Rx 480 power cooler (single fan) on Craigslist, he said he will give me the card for 5 days to test and I can pay him after. If it was used for mining is it safe to buy? Will probably put an accelero on it since the cooler is crap. Should I go for it (for my friends first build) or should we play it safe and get a 150 dollar 970

Mining doesn't effect the life of the card unless it was improperly cooled.

if the card isnt dead mining hasn't damaged it

Sure? It couldn't have been degrading and will now die in a week?

So I should be safe as long as I test it multiple times?

Which wouldn't matter as I'm replacing with an accelero since the fans on the powercoler are ungodly

Most polaris miners undervolt/underclock the card as clock speed doesn't really affect mining. As long as the guy kept the cooler clean and the fan is in good condition it will be fine.

So, basically if the card works then you're most likely good to go.

i dont get where this "mining damages cards" stuff comes from.. if mining specificly would damage a card, that is a badly made card.

if mining would damage a card, gaming would as well.
