ASUS ROG STRIX GTX1080TI 11G vs O11G

Hi guys,

So I'm getting an ASUS Strix GTX1080ti for my new build, I'm not sure whether to get the O11G or the 11G version.

Specs of the OC Modes (Gaming Modes are both lower).

GPU Boost Clock : 1632 MHz , GPU Base Clock : 1518 MHz (11G)

vs.

GPU Boost Clock : 1708 MHz , GPU Base Clock : 1594 MHz (O11G)

So to save your maths skills 76MHz more for both the Boost Clock and Base Clocks. On the surface seems like a lot for $150 dollars *AUD.

So given this, will the MAX GPU Boost 3.0 speed be higher from a card that's clocked higher? Or since they're physically identical cards, am I better off saving my $150 cost difference between the two?

*Finds thread "The GPU Overclocking Database" with GPU clock speed references here and reviews that* - Doesn't seem to be what I thought it was, never mind.

This may be covered in a more generalised topic of graphic card stock card speeds vs overclocked version speeds and might be a larger debate, if it's not a cut and dry answer and is debatable, interested in the debate regardless.

I'd say save the money and go for the one without factory OC. My Asus GTX 1070 Dual card also doesn't have factory overclocks, but by overclocking myself I can still get 2060MHz stable, so factory OC or not doesn't give better overclocking headroom.

Total waste of money, no 1080Ti will run at the clocks advertised on the box anyway. You don't even get a backplate or an extra year's warranty with the 'OC' version like you do from some manufacturers, Aorus does this for example.

Just FYI, what do you call this then?

Also, why do you want a back plate it does nothing for thermals, mine is co-incidental, I bought this to go with my motherboard and for its cooling capabilities. Extra year warranty? How about they just make a card that works well so I don't need to use it? If I need the warranty it'll be immediately or not at all.

The backplate isn't incentivised is what I meant, obviously both versions have a backplate.

I don't know why you are crying at me like it's my fault you don't care about backplates or an extra years warranty to be honest.

Lol crying, good one. Different priorities, different reasons to buy hardware.

But based on what the consensus is, I'll take your original comment as 'don't buy a more expensive version for performance just for extras' which is fair enough.
