Gpu breaking motherboard

So i was wondering if a GPU could break a motherboard? my friend just gave me an old one that he hasnt used in a long time and said i could have it. i was wondering if i tried plugging it into my motherboard could it potentially break my motherboard or if it actually is bad will it just not read

the absoloute worse is that a capacitor pop's and it set's something on fire buyt I'd but that under 0.1 percent of happening

No unless you move your PC like an earthquake. PC MFRs put graphics card supports but those are for shipping. I doubt you could break it like that

So i should be fine plugging it in and testing it? i run on a budget so my biggest concern is it breaks my motherboard

check all the caps and clean the gpu before that will make sure that there is no duct creating a connection between the 2 points on the gpu.

Okay thank you all, im building another PC for my sister Since i have a 1050 Ti 4gb in my system, i just want to make sure that this one works for when i build hers
