Ive heard so much shit online i dont know what to believe. Do you need a higher dpi mouse for a higher resolution monitor?

You need a higher DPI tracking for a higher pixel density monitor to get the same real-world movement speed. That is, if two monitors are the same physical size but one has higher resolution, the mouse will move more slowly across it. However, if the monitor is physically larger by the same proportion as the resolution is larger, then the mouse will move at the same speed on both monitors. For example 2560×1440 is 4/3 the size of 1920×1080 in each dimension, so if you have a 1920×1080 monitor at 24" and a 2560×1440 that is 32" (4/3 as large), then the pixel density is the same and the mouse movement will be the same. However a 27" 2560×1440 monitor has higher pixel density than a 24" 1920×1080 monitor, so the mouse will appear to move more slowly.

Tracking speed is of course adjustable in the operating system too though.

To get the same experience: yes, but what I see in real life is people mostly using 800-1600 DPI still. And even if you have a lower DPI, you can up the sensitivity. You will lose some accuracy, but the penalty is so tiny it wont really even matter.
