So I'm fucked. I'm having two switches, one TP-Link TL-SG108 and Netgear GS105. I´ve dragged a cable out of our fiber box to a router which then has a cable to the GS105 and there on a cable to the TL-SG108. The thing is I'm having a LAN party and none of those connected to the switches and even the router can get connect, just unidentified network. Can anyone please help me out?

Have you tried setting IP addresses manually? If you can connect via WiFi, then I'd copy over the default gateway and subnet mask from your IP on WiFi and then input an IP address on the same subnet and see if that works.

By the sounds of things, they can't reach the DHCP server, so manually setting them may fix it

The thing is, the routers can't be modified in any way. There's no web window or anything.

You don't need to modify the router for that. Just change the IP addresses on the computers.

Also, you said "routers", are you using more than one on the network? If so, I'd advise only using one, especially if they can't have settings changed as they're likely to have conflicts with each other.

I got one router (Modem), which then has one 5 port switch. From one of those ports, I have a cable which goes to the 8 port switch.

Just to check, is the port the switch is connected to a different colour or labelled "WAN" or something similar? From my experience, most routers will have a 4 port LAN switch with a WAN port as well. If it's connected to the WAN port (normally a different colour), change it to one of the LAN ports.

The first switch has its internet cable from the modem on the designated spot. Do you think I need to change port?

Sounds like it. If there's one port that's separated from the others, don't use it, it's likely a WAN port which is designed to be used to accept an incoming connection from a modem, allowing the modem/router combo to function only as a router. If you're connecting local devices to it, it should be to one of the normal LAN ports.

If I go to the modem settings, It doesn't even detect if I've connected cables to the modem.

Is that with end devices connected and turned on? If there's nothing on the other end, there's nothing connected as far as the modem/router is concerned.

Have you tried connecting one of the PCs to the router directly to see if it works that way? If it does, there's a chance you have a dead switch or a port that's dead.

There's also a possibility that the TL-SG108 has some settings that are causing issues. If you can access its settings and set it to default it may work. The GS105 shouldn't cause any issues as it's unmanaged.

1. Yeah, they are turned on and not receiving any signals. The final switch (8-port) is indicating it's receiving something via blinking lights.

2. Yeah, but doesn't give any internet connection.

3. I literally bought the 8 port one three days ago and the 5-port today.

Okay, looks like it's not an issue with the switches then, it's something to do with the router.

First thing I'd try is try a PC on each of the ports on the router to see if some of dead.

If they all give the same results, could you open up CMD (while connected to the router via ethernet) and run the command:

ipconfig

And do the same when connected via WiFi.

And then post the results.

You could try these commands too to see if it fixes anything:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

all the ports works for some reason now....

The first switch working too now. But the second switch with 8 ports still has some problems.

I'd imagine the 8 port switch may need some setup before it will work properly due to it being managed. If you run through the setup on the switch, you should basically be able to set it to run as an unmanaged switch, in which case it should work fine.
