$2000 Build with Peripherals

Hey guys just asking for your input, I was thinking 6800k or 1700. I will be using it for gaming and want it to last a few years.

I would get the 1700 and use the extra money on other things like the GPU and such.

1700, intel's enthousiast platform is too expensive (and overcomplicated) on the mobo side as well.

So what are you using this PC for? Just gaming? I'd get the i7-7700K instead.

Games are using 4 cores now and some will start to use 8 threads, if games become more demanding how will the 7700k be futureproof

Because the whole concept of "future-proofing" is bullshit. That's why.

 

For how long have people been saying "but games will start using more threads in the future"? Too long to count. It doesn't work like that. Even if a game can utilise more threads, that doesn't mean you will get performance that scales linearly to those extra threads. This is all because of something called Amdahl's Law.

 

By the time games do scale with the an increasing number of cores, the R7 1700 and i7-6800K will both be obsolete.

 

You want the best gaming performance? Then buy the processor that currently performs the best in games and don't base your purchasing decision on "what ifs".
