Here are my current PC specs:
Asus Z97-Pro / Intel i7 4790k / MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X / Phanteks Anthoo Pro / 2x8gb DDR3 Corsair Ripjaw 2166mhz / 2xSamsung 850 Evo 256gb / Antec 850w PSU / Corsair H100i

I'm in the US, and have $2000 to spend.

I use my computer for gaming and my job.

I run two monitors at 2k 144hz and occasionally use a 4k Samsung TV.

I built this computer in late 2014 with a medium/high budget with the intention of gaming at 1080p with maxed settings. I started at a 970 GTX, then went 2xSLI. Sold both, grabbed an MSI 1080 Gaming X late last year. My system currently performs magnificently rendering at 2k and 4k, thanks to that sweet 8gb of video memory working for me.

However, I'm looking to get into the exciting new AMD CPU scene which means I'll have to replace my motherboard, RAM, and processor. Heres the thing. I've got a pretty generous budget this time around, but as I said, my computer is currently performing just fine for my use, and I can always SLI or upgrade my GPU when it doesn't. My computer isn't a looker. The Anthoo Pro is a nice case, but my internals simply don't look very coordinated. If I'm putting some 2017 into my computer with an AM4 upgrade on a large budget, I want it to look amazing.

A friend mentioned thematic builds. I'm from DC, the flag looks like this and it's special to many from there. I have one hanging on my wall, for example.

Heres what I've thought up so far:

New:

Ryzen 1700X

ThermalTake Core P5 SE

MSI X370 XPOWER Titanium White

4x16gb DDR4 White/Red RAM

Hardline Watercooling

M.2 and SSD Storage (No HDD)

Keep:

MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X

Antec 850w PSU

The build would be white and black with an accent of red, to emulate the DC flag. I would mount the 1080 perpendicular to the ground and actually repaint the 1080's MSI GAMING X black and red style to white and red. The Mystic Light LED system provided by the MSI motherboard would allow for RGB lighting in white and red, although I haven't put much thought or research into it. I would use a Dremel to engrave the two bars of the DC flag vertically into the acrylic front-panel of the Core P5 case and paint them a translucent red. Finally, the entire system would be wall mounted next to my flag.

Is this feasible for a third-time builder?

How can I do a better job at preparing to implement this?

Do you think it'd be cool-looking?!

Please don't hesitate to rip this apart, put your own spin on it, or recommend something entirely different.

Thanks.

I suspect you would be disappointed with the performance improvement since you are using the same gpu for rendering.

The choice of 2x16GB memory kits that can fill all four slots is still fairly limited for Ryzen cpu.

I would be hesitant to take a dremel to the clear case cover.

I'm not really looking for a massive uptick in performance. I want to future-proof the system by upgrading (and switching) chipsets to get ready for multithreading optimization and with a switch like that I'll be replacing a fair amount of the computer.

Are you suggesting 16gb RAM quad channel has limited performance w/ Ryzen? And I'll probably hold off on the dremel... I do have access to a laser engraver.

Well you (indirectly) say you want an AMD build, but are sticking with a 1080? To be honest thats something I would change, maybe Vega?...

Are there performance differences between Ryzen-GTX computers and Ryzen-Vega computers?

Ryzen still has issues with some memory. To achieve 64GB of memory one needs four 16GB modules. If you take a look at any Ryzen motherboard memory QVL, you will see that 16GB modules qualified for all four memory slots are not plentiful. As far as I know, none of those modules are qualified to run above DDR4-2400.

I wonder if one could use a transllucent colored film of some sort to add the bars and stars.
