Printer is not using black ink

I got given a HP Officejet 6700 Premium for free recently because it isn't working, it originally wasn't seeing that there was a black ink in it, but I have fixed that now, it looks like a little runner wasn't aligned properly, so that was fixed and is being recognised now, the problem now is though that although it recognises the black ink it can't print with it. From what I have been told by the printer and from who I got it from the black ink is meant to pretty much full, and new. All the other colours are working, it's just the black ink which isn't, which is a problem obviously. I'll admit I don't know massive amounts about printers, so don't know how to fix this and what infos important and whats not for finding out the fault so yea, any help is welcome
