Yeah I'd imagine so.

And even if the 7600k is a bit slower on the rendering I'd still pick that.

You are, after all, spending most of your time editing. Not rendering.

I would tear my hair off with slow playback.

Glad we helped :)

Hi everyone,

I was wondering which computer is better for editing:

- PC: i5 7600K @ 3,8 , 16GB ddr4 3200MHz, GTX 1070

- Mac Pro: 2x intel xeon quad core @ 2,8 , 16GB ddr2 800MHz, GeForce 8800 GT 512Mb

With better I mean which computer has better playback and has the least stutters etc.

The programs I'm using are Final Cut Pro X and Davinci Resolve 14.

Thanks!

My own build: RΛZΞR theme

CPU: Intel Core i5 7600K // CPU cooler: Cryorig H7 // Motherboard: MSI Z270 gaming pro carbon //

Video Card: MSI Armor gtx 1070 OC 8GB // RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3200MHz //

SSD: Samsung EVO 960 500GB // HDD: 2x WD yellow edition 2TB //

Case: NZXT H440 RAZER edition // Power Supply: Corsair RM550x //

Operating Software: Windows 10 pro 64-bit

I'd say it depends.

Both can render videos just fine, but:

  • Dual xeons will probably render faster than the single i5
  • The GTX 1070 will playback better than the 8800GT by miles.

All things considered, I'd vote for the 7600k.

That Xeon system seems old considering it's DDR2, and playback will SUCK on the 8800GT.

PC wins this time.

I would however pick the Mac if you could add a better GPU to it.
