I'm trying to build a period accurate PC From Q4 2006 (Release date of Wii/ps3)

I'm going to use it to play games from the late 90's - 2005, and I want the original experience. I know I can play pretty much all of those games on a modern PC, but I want the genuine experience.

The problem is that I wasn't into PC gaming back then, so I have no idea what the hardware scene was or what to buy. My question is, what was the hardware specs of a balls to the wall gaming PC from 2006?

Here's what I know:

QX6700

8800GTX

I would like a mATX motherboard if possible, but I have no idea which one. Also,

How much hard drive space was overkill back then?

Optical drive?

RAM?

Monitor? - Also want it to be period accurate, so what was the slay gaming monitor of 2006

I'm going to use a modern SSD for speed and a modern PSU for efficiency, so don't worry about those.

If anyone had like a $3000 gaming setup from 2006 and wanted to post those specs, that would be good...

Thanks guys.

This is a stupid thread.

Dude drop the negativity. If that's what rocks OP's boat... no reason to post a comment like that?

What do you gain from using old hardware when you can play those games on your PC?

The novelty of having a computer that was once great and playing ES4 on it. Knowing that the fact that I'm getting 80fps at max settings was a huge deal for that hardware. To have another tower that I can out out on display as a curiosity in my computer den. The joy of collecting old things and giving them a new and meaningful life.

Probably not, but it sure is a waste of money.
