i ordered a Crucial - MX300 1.1TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive, having trouble finding out if i should worry about heat management or not. i did not go with nvme as i couldn't justify the price difference for what i would use it for which is primarily gaming. from what ive read the non nvme m.2's don't have nearly the heat production but have not found solid evidence as to whether or not i should start looking for a way to better cool it.

Cooling the drive will give better sustained speed and drive lifespan.

You could just ghetto a fan on top of it, or if you have an Asus motherboard, they do 3d printed fan holders.

Or there is a m. 2 heatsink from ekwb.

Sync RGB fans with motherboard RGB header.

EVGA SuperNova 850 G2

Asus Strix Soar

if your case has mediocre airflow, it should be fine.

worse to worse you buy a small fan from noctua or something and then point it over the SSD, but I doubt it should exceed 50c

i have liquid cooling aio's for cpu and gpu, also i have noctua fans making a pretty strong air current. i game at "4k" (gsync not native) for hours at 44 degrees celcius case temp

i thought about that too but the m.2 chipset is not universal and and neither are the heatsinks that i have found that don't create a heat pocket over the more shallow end of the m.2
