So I recently just built my gaming rig using an msi b350 tomahawk so that i could have am4 sockets. I bought a ryzen 5 1400 for the build. When socketing the processor i was careless and so excited to finally start building that i forgot to life the retention arm as i socketed the processor. i then open the retention arm and reclosed it. the processor works fine right now and didnt fall out of the socket (though i cannot seem to get it out of the socket) and has no other issues. The only thing im worried about is if this was an actual ok thing to do with the processor or if anything will go wrong in the future.

As long as no pins were damaged then it is unlikely to cause issues. Did you try to force the CPU down into the socket before lifting the arm?

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

No i did not try to force the processor into the socket anymore until i had lifted the arm. As far as i can tell the CPU isnt currently damaged on its pins, but i also cant be sure because i had previously stated, i am unable under any delicate force, to remove the processor

It shouldn't be stuck in the socket at all. PGA is really easy to remove, even if the chip is locked in place. Sounds like you may have bent some pins while the CPU was in the socket which is not good an unfortunately won't be covered under any sort of warranty. As far as using any pressure on the CPU at all, did that ever happen? Have you put a cooler on at all?

I have put a cpu cooler on yes, i am currently messaging you from the computer the processor is in.

Very good chance that you have some bent pins locking it in place. While it may be working now, that's not to say you haven't broken a pin off that will cause issues later on. I recommend trying to get the CPU out as carefully as possible and check for damage. Lay the computer down flat, lift the arm and try to lift the CPU out. If it doesn't come out, try to wiggle the CPU  extremely carefully and try to lift it out again.

How long do you think i can wait to do that? As of the moment I don't have any thermal paste so if i were to get the processor out and there were not issues i would not be able to put it back into my pc. And i would be without a pc untill i can get thermal paste.

I wouldn't wait at all. Either shut down your computer now and turn the PSU off and wait until you have some thermal paste or go buy some now and check your computer. Best case scenario, everything works fine and there is minimal damaged. Worst case scenario is you've broken a pin off completely but its still making ok contact for now but later on it may shift as the CPU gets warmer and you end up shorting your system. Absolute worst case is you have a short and your house burns down though that is unlikely.
