Hello there,

I'm pretty much set on buying a 1440p 144Hz monitor to replace my 108pp 60Hz one. However I'm not sure I should keep my r9 fury nitro, as it struggles a bit with newer games @1440p, let alone being capable of high frame rates on games which aren't cs go or pre 2015 games, and it achieves decent framerate for 2016 games (60-90). I was waiting on Vega,  hoping for a in between 1080-1080ti card, but that's not going to happen apparently. I personnally need to have the graphics card last me with high framerate at 1440p for 1 year and a half - 2 years. Should I wait for the Vega card and try to get the best out of Vega vs 1080, or should I be better off buying a 1080ti already?

If I buy the new GPU soon enough, I could sell my current one for 200€, which would give me a 1080ti for 550€ instead of 750€. If I wait, I'll have to find another buying in a much smaller city (like 10 times smaller), so it may get harder to find a new one.

By the way, the 1080ti is a ZOTAC mini, are there things to look our for with that one? Should it be okay for 1440p 144Hz gaming for 1,5-2 years?

Or should I get a less expensive one like a 1080-Vega, to upgrade next year again?

After the 1,5-2 years period, I'll have my studies finished, and I'll basically have a more serious budget to upgrade!

Honestly it will depend on what games you're playing, and what settings you will want to play them at. but 1440p + 144hz is no joke, and if you're intending on playing demanding AAA titles at those framerates, you're going to want at LEAST a single 1080ti (and honestly that won't reach 144hz in all games all the time anyway). However if your gaming needs are more shooter based, or less demanding titles, or you're okay with turning down a couple of unecessary settings in demanding titles in order to maintain your fps, then a Vega 64 or gtx 1080 may be the way to go for you if you want to save some money

What CPU do you have? 144hz will be difficult to reach in many titles without a well overclocked i7 (like the 6700k/7700k)

A 6600k, which I could overclock a bit more by getting a gpu consuming less than my fury!

1080 like performance would give something like 60-90fps while 1080ti performance would give me between 80-130 fps instead. Are those extra 20 to 30 frames worth it compared to using freesync with vega at around 1080 perf ?

that is a decision you have to make, not me.

Ahah thanks :P I hate nvidia, but 1080ti seems the way to go especially with amd slightly over 1080 on their chosen slides where it's almost best case scenario  (battlefield 1).

I asked because I've never had the experience! And I'm torn between spending wisely my money and supporting the moral high ground :P

Thanks for the criticism, I needed that to realise I can perfectly live with my fury for a while longer. Probably can wait for Navi,  or at least wait for Vega with that card,  since on the 5 games it struggles at 1440p, I finished three of them already, gave up one of them, really don't like it, and that leaves only deus ex mankind divided to finish, but I have a backlog of older games which run perfectly fine and I play most of the time cs go anyway, which my fury is perfectly capable to push to 144hz anyway.

You sir saved me some cash :)
