Desktop won't post

To make a long story short my computer wouldn't post. I just bought brand new ram and a new motherboard and am still having the same problem. I have an i7-4790k, 16gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance LP (brand new), and asrock z97 fatality pro (brand new). I'm getting post code 55, which the manual says, 'The memory could not be detected'. I don't understand how that is possible because it's a new motherboard and a new set of ram. I tried putting the sticks of ram in by themselves and in each dimm slot but no luck. Could someone try and help me out please?

Even new stuff could be DOA.

 

I just had the issue with a board... didn't recognize any CPU, had to RMA it.

Main System:

I just tried the ram in my brothers pc so I know that works but I don't have a way of testing the motherboard. Is there any way it be the processor?

You could take it out, clean it and put it back in to test.

 

The board itself can be DOA as well. It's hard to tell. The DOA board of mine was turning on and gave the post code "no cpu installed".

I apologize, I probably should've said this earlier but the board isn't brand new. My buddy bought it about a month ago, and then upgraded to Kaby Lake. It was working perfectly for him and he sold it to me for cheap earlier today. That's why I'm thinking it must be the CPU that's the problem.

The CPU worked in your old system? Or did you get that one used as well?

 

In used parts everything can be possible, without spare equip to swap around and test everything, the troubleshooting will be quite hard.

Everything was working completely fine a couple days ago when I was watching a YouTube video. Suddenly my computer black screened and I haven't been able to get it to post since. I got the new ram set yesterday, no luck. And I just got the motherboard today, thinking that was the issue, and still the same result. No post. 

 

Also so I bought the CPU/my old motherboard brand new a couple winters ago.

Something must have fried your old system...

 

If the CPU is form the old system, there is the chance it is fried to some part.

It could be the psu, I'll try to use my brothers and see if it works. I don't know how I would've fried something as there were no power surges or outages recently.

Your old system died somehow. A defective PSU isn't always damaged by surges or outages. Just by age as well.

Yes I tried other ram and same result. I'm going to go to my friends house tomorrow and see if his 4690k works. Thank you so much for all of your help, I really appreciate it.

Seems to be the bored, maybe was damaged or static charged when removed or fitted to your system, Amy way to test the CPU ? First thing I would do is strip the system right down bk to parts then rebuild it and check all connections and plugs/ports/lanes for any damage, if all fails after that then if you have no way to test the CPU you will either need a new one or have yours tested, looks inks it's the motherbored that's causeing the issue

If you can, test all your hardware on his motherboard to make sure yours all works, if it does the your bored is the issue, make sure the pins ain't bent and check the connections on the bored in all the slots etc
