Hey guys I just built my first computer , it costed me $550 and I'd like to say it was worth it. I need some help though. I transfered my HDD from old computer into this new one and I'd like to setup a SSD. The only problem is I dont have a Windows Boot Disk. Is there any way i can get my OS on my SSD as a boot drive ? I really dont care if I lose my files (other than os). I want to do this to speed up my computer , and set it up for overclocking!

Just encase you were interested this is what I built

:

mobo : 970 Pro gaming Aura

psu : Masterwatt lite 500 80+ full range coolermaster

GPU: Geforce GTX 1060 OC edition

Ram : Ballistix sport gaming memory

Processor: AMD FX Processor (black edition)

Yes I know I could have gotten a better rig for $550, but this is what I got.

Do you have the windows activation key from the other computer? What version of Windows it it? If it’s 7, 8, or 10, then you can download a new image from Microsoft and either use thei tool to make a bootable usb installer or make an iso to burn to a disk.

windows 10 or windows 7?

if windows 7, i think you need a new windows key..

--

windows 10, login to your microsoft account if you didn't, wait a bit and it should tie the product key with your account.

then, download the windows 10 64 bit ISO and then download rufus. get a 8gb or higher capacity USB that has nothing on it and plug it in. open rufus, drag the ISO (drag and drop) onto it. make sure it selected your USB and not an external HDD, and then click start

wait for it to finish, shut down pc

unplug HDD (to make sure it doesn't fuck up your existing windows install), then boot from usb

install onto ssd

plug back in hdd, boot from ssd, take all your files off of it and then format it using disk management

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

you already have windows 10, or are you doing the free upgrade to windows 10 via 'microsoft im disabled please give me free windows'

or are you going from windows 7 to windows 10? you do need a new windows key (you can buy one from /r/microsoftsoftwareswap for $35 or so(

yeah it should work, i haven't done it that way but you can try it and see if it works for yourself (probably will, since the tool is from microsoft themselves)

please don't run the setup INSIDE windows. you need to boot from the USB to install it ..

What do you mean?

in the end of the video i think he ran the installer inside windows, can't really tell as my internet is being a piece of shit and youtube doesn't load properly.

you need to shut down your computer, then go into the BIOS, and then boot from the USB (change the boot priority from HDD to USB)

you can download the windows 10 ISO using the windows 10 download tool on microsoft's website, but you need to save it as an ISO for 'burning to DVD'

Rufus is a utility that 'burns' ISOs onto a USB, ISOs can also be used to be burnt onto a DVD however.

It's like a ZIP, you can put the contents inside your downloads folder or another drive in another location (ISO is not a ZIP, its a bad analogy)

no

since you said you are going to be using the disabled method, you are going to need to contact microsoft to do the thing, and then wait for them to give you a product key

product ID is NOT product code.

how are you going to get a windows key?

product ID is NOT windows key

you do need one if you want to do some customizable things I guess, and to remove that 'activate windows' watermark on the bottom right of your screen

that means if you went from windows 7 / 8.1 to windows 10 when the free upgrade period was still a thing (i think sept 2015 to sept 2016) then you don't get a product key (one that is typable, like XHJUSHIUDH), but it is linked to your microsoft account (IF you are logged into one)
