Hello everyone.

I've been having problems with my computer dying in the middle of games (10 mins), and one time just doing generally light tasks.

The computer just simply powers down then starts to boot up again, but doesn't post at all afterwards (stays powered but no display).

My GPU showed no signs of artifacting whatsoever.

Specs:

Core i5 2500

8 GB RAM 1333Mhz

GTX 1060

Thermaltake Smart 630 W 80+ Bronze

1TB Seagate Barracuda

All except the 1060 are about 5-ish years old. My current verdict would either be

1. Faulty RAM

2. Dying HDD

3. Failing PSU

4. Most unlikely but, defective GPU?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

sounds like dying psu to me do you have another pc that you can test your stuff out in. i would start with the psu and work your way back from there. also try memtest to check if you are getting any ram errors and maybe run windows disk check to check hddi had a bad psu and it did the same thing when i would start playing any games. i understand we arent going to have the same situation but thats what it turned out to be in my case

I have had this issue before, it was my mobo...

Though problems like this are usually linked with the PSU, if you have another suitable PSU somewhere then try installing that and testing.

I understand that not everyone is going to have a nice PSU just in a drawer somewhere so try taking out individual RAM sticks instead to troubleshoot RAM.

Alright I'll try out the RAM trick. Sadly I don't have additional parts.

When the PC turns off, does it have the Windows shut down screen?

No it just goes blank. Like literally just blacks out (powers down), then does a reboot but no post

Hmm I don't have a multimeter with me to check the voltage rails :/ I guess I'll try other components

Update on this issue.

I've managed to get the PC back up and running without crashes by doing the following

1. Reset the Bios by taking out the CMOS battery then putting in back

2. Reseated my GPU and changed the 6 pin connection to the other

3. Moved RAM to 1-3 slots instead of 2-4
