I was watching a YouTube video yesterday on my custom built desktop, everything was running smoothly, when 10 seconds into the video my pc black screened and won't turn on at all. I have a gtx 1070, 4790k, 16gb ram, Msi z97-g45 mobo, 1tb hdd, and 240gb ssd. No overclocking. I have been messing with it for a little while and I'm having no luck. Recently my pc has been showing I only have 8gb of ram instead of 16 so I updated my bios and that didn't change anything. My pc was working fine for a couple days after that and now it won't start. My case lights light up and all of my fans are spinning but nothing is displaying to the monitor. I have tried a different display cable, different and confirmed working ram, and plugging my display cable into my motherboard instead of my gradphics card. All of my connections to the mobo are good and plugged in. My mobo speaker does not beep when I try to start it up so I think the problem is either my motherboard or CPU. Could anyone lead me in the right direction on what to test next or what is dead?

I suspect dead RAM slots. Try use them 1 at a time or use other slots.

That was the first thing I tried as that is what i believed the issue was as well, still no luck.

,Does the board have error code displaying LED screen or error lights? Also, make sure take the graphics card out from the slot before testing with iGPU. Some boards will refuse to use the iGPU when it detects a GPU in the PCIe slot

There is no error screen or any lights of any kind that would show a error code and the mother board speaker is not beeping at all. I did not know that about the graphics card and I removed it but still the same result.

is it possible that the monitor is dead and try a different mobo

I can confirm the monitor is working and I believe the problem is the motherboard but I don't have another one handy. I might run to the store and buy a new one of it comes down to it.

go to a repair shop to get it tested or borrow one from a friend before buying one

I was going to take it to a local store, frys electronics, and they said it would cost me 70$ for them to even look at it so that's not happening. I could try and ask a friend to borrow their motherboard but that probably wouldn't be right away. And there were no power surges or outages recently but during this testing process I have been powering off my system with the power supply switch. I'm not sure if that matters but i thought it might be worth mentioning.

,Just to add that beeps for error are generated through a buzzer on the motherboard. It doesnt require any speaker to give out beeps. What is the PSU? If it's modular then its possible that some of the wires are loose there.

What do you mean by buzzer, I don't know that that is? I have the basic little speaker that came with the motherboard plugged in. and the psu is an evga 850w fully modular 80+ gold but i check and none of the cables are loose in any way.

It sounds like your motherboard had some issues if it wasn't reading your ram properly. See if it came with a manufacturer warranty. If it did I would suggest calling them to get it replaced. If not contact the retailer you purchased it through to see if you can get a replacement. Also try both sticks of ram in slots that you know are working. Some newer mobos require ram to be in pairs to work properly. Would you also be able to tell me if your psu has an indicator light to see if it's even working.

Also you could try removing the cmos battery for a few minutes and see if that helps.

Buzzer or beepers are small devices that give out noise. Not sure whether that's what on your mobo, but my board has got one. Anyway, boards that beep dont use external speakers to give out that sound.
