Price to performance

Hello,

I recently put together a spec list for a PC upgrade and wanted to know if anyone may have any recommendations for components that can increase price to performance without taking a significant overall performance hit.

R5 1600 would be nice

No need for a water cooler, waste of money. Both R5 1600 and i5 7400 comes with a cooler already and they're more than enough

Strider Gold is on the expensive side of PSU and offers low performance

You can't overclock with i5 7400, you need 7600k so a Z270 is not needed.

I'd advice spend less on RGB and only do case lighting and use that to get better components like 1060 6GB/RX 480/580 8GB if they are cheap

Thank you for the advise. 

 

The water cooler and motherboard were a choice to keep the system themed as I plan on a white and purple theme, but I will look into the other options and see if I can reduce the costs in those areas.

You've to ask yourself what matters most, the looks of the pc or the looks of the games in your display hehehe, you're wasting money in here as your overpaying for no performance gain, you should instead get a b250m or h110m the cheapest you can find and throw an i7 7700 on it (using stock cooling) sure it would look "ugly" but it would also easily outperform an i5 7400 on such expensive cooling and motherboard.

if its price to performance you want and you havent considered the r5 1600 there is something wrong

Thank you guys for the advise, I will look more into my specs and take your advise

1. Use pcpartpicker if possible. Just make sure you change the location to New Zealand to get the right prices.

2. 650W PSU is overkill. Even 450W is enough but I'd suggest going for a 550W one to hold future upgrades (unless 650w one has a good looking price).

3. NVMe SSDs are not worth it as a boot drive. Might as well get a SATA SSD from other brands like WD, Adata, PNY, Kingston etc as boot drive.

4. Even among NVMe drives, Intel ones arent the best. Might as well get the Samsung 960 Evo for more speed

5. 1060s are in an embarrassing position. 3GB is a bit limiting when it comes to using high texture details and high anti aliasing while 6GB is silly for being just 5-10% faster and 25%+ as expensive. Is it possible to squeeze a 1070 in the build within budget?
