Hey,I'm back again, with another build,my last build was a success thanks to the people in this forum (Credit yourself please XD) and it only took less then an hour for my first time.

This time,Instead of a gaming pc,I would like to build a server to host a dedicated server myself instead of paying for someone to host it.

But first,i got a few question.

1)This server,could i run it 24/7?

2)If i were to run the server 24/7,wont the parts be damaged?

3)Some say a server is just the same as a normal pc,just use a pc that i dont use anymore,is that true?
4)Does a server cost over a thousand dollars?

5)is 10gb Network really needed?

6)Does the server use windows 10 or a windows server 2016

7)If it were to use windows server 2016,whats the difference between a normal windows that and that windows server 2016.

My aim is to be able to host a CSGO,Gmod or a rust server to atleast 50 people and i want it to be cheap yet is proper enough to run without any problems, hope you guys are able to help me like you guys did last build.

You can run a 64 player CSGO server on a toaster. Seriously Source dedicated servers require very little resources.

A server is just a PC so yes, you can use an old machine to host a dedicated.

Running 24/7 shouldn't be an issue as long as the PC is well ventilated, has adequate cooling etc.

10GB is not needed, a fast upload speed is VERY important though.

SRCDS runs on any OS Steam will run on, it makes ZERO difference.

I STRONGLY suggest you Google SteamCMD, get familiar with it before you attempt anything. Also learn how to install and use Sourcemod, it's pretty much essential for a Source dedicated.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

In-terms of running a Dedicated server,I'm already on it,so far ive run a CS-GO,Gmod and currently,a rust server.Well currently i do not have any extra old pc,so,if i were to build one,how much would it cost?

Btw,in case people forgot about me,im a Singaporean.

Dude. Any old PC will do. And you do not need to have ultra modern hardware 10Gb network of windows server. Repurpose an old PC or buy something cheap used. An old Dell with 4gb of ram would be enough.

Wow,i didnt know that will be enough, but if there are multiple players connected, wont the server lagged out or like be slowed down or something,i mean its multiple people connecting.

A few years back we had a server with our friends that had 4 GB of RAM a super old 2-core Intel Xeon and a 80 GB HDD. We could play any shooter, CS GO, Source and TF2.

wow, thanks, that means i dont really need server grade stuff to really run a server where people could connect around the world, even for intense games like rust then,so pretty much i could just spend less then 500 sgd and buy an old pc to run my server on,is that it?

So to say whatever i read about servers are mostly unnecessary then,but,1 more question,to run this dedicated server, what component is mainly important, for example,a gaming pc is mostly the gpu, then for a server?

CPU and ram. Best a quad core but dual core is fine and 4 gb of ram or more. But you should be fine with 4.

Just something quick, obviously you'd need to source the parts from local vendors since I didn't see Singapore on the list for PCPartPicker. Additionally, you could always toss in an SSD if you really wanted.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($109.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI - B350M GAMING PRO Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($69.99 @ Amazon)

Btw, your server does not need a GPU at all. They are useless in servers.

Ok,i didnt expect running a server would just require normal pc components that arnt even that powerful,i expected servers to cost more since it will be running 24/7,so with those parts,i could like run those server 24/7?with like tons of players connected on it?I could like run 2 server at once right?and also, will it be worth?or is it better to buy a hosting service?

If you want a server for a month or so, rent one but if you want a server for a long time, build your own. And the specs posted above are quite a bit overkill for your needs. Get used! RAM+Mobo+CPU combos are cheap. Get for example an old Intel Q6600 with a random 775 Mobo and 4gb of DDR2, the cost won't exceed a 100 euro.

Yah, it's not the most powerful thing in the world but like others have said, Source based games don't require much horsepower. You could almost definitely run 2 servers at once. Maybe you could bump up the RAM to 16GB (2x8GB) but other than that there won't be much issue.

As for hosting yourself vs a service, I would say it depends on electricity costs. Assume that hosting yourself would draw roughly 200 watts per hour or 4.8kW per day. Depending on the price of electricity and the hosting cost, you can determine it from there.

Umm ok,i didnt expect that, wow,i expect this to cost around 500 or more,is this what some of those hosting servers are using?if its this way then ill guess the build will be earlier.thanks,so to sums things up,server doesnt require gpu, components to focus on is cpu and ram right? What os?Windows 10 or windows server?

Yah, just focus on CPU and RAM.

I did forget, Ryzen doesn't have any APU based processors right now so you'll need a cheap GT710 or similar GPU just to do basic install and maintenance but that shouldn't be more than like 20 bucks.

I would suggest just plain Windows 10 for the OS, or see if you can run it via Linux, a quick google search should let you know if that's possible :)

Processor: i3-4160 3.60GHz Ram: 8GB DDR3 Gpu: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti 4GB Storage: 320GB Casing: Nanotron T1x Window Motherboard: Asrock H81m Psu: FSP 450W 80+ Wi-Fi: ASUS PCE-N15 OS: Windows 10 Pro

Try to convince him not to sell you the GPU. Otherwise it's perfect.
