Hi all,

Making a new thread instead of necroing the old one:

I'm mostly looking for critiques of my current parts list. Please qualify all critiques.

1. Budget & Location

I'm looking to spend ~$3000. I am in NC, USA.

2. Aim

Gaming, web browsing, and college school work. I want the gaming to be at 1440p and over 100Hz as much as possible. I also want the system to look good, with tempered glass side panel and a black/purple color scheme.

3. Monitors

A single, 1440p, 144Hz IPS w/G-Sync would be ideal. 4K upgrades are planned, as well as a double monitor setup.

4. Peripherals

Mechanical, backlit keyboard is a must. I have no interest in VR. I already have speakers and a mouse.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I have always wanted a high-end gaming build, and only recently is it a possibility.

Here's my current parts list:

I picked the Pro 960 because it was M.2 and NVMe, which would be incredibly faster than the AHCI SSDs in RAID. Also, one of my aims is to game at 1440p @ Ultra settings so I can get over 100Hz. 4K gaming just seems like it has a ways to go.

I have gotten bad reviews from friends about BenQ quality before, so I usually stay away from them. Thought honestly, I think I'll take the 1440p, >100Hz, G-Sync, >=27in monitor that's on sale the day I purchase all of this.

I mostly agree with the picked stuff.

The hard drive chosen will probably be whatever's on sale at the time of purchase. I just chose one. Any reason, besides dollar/gb, for the Hitachi?

Also, see above for my take on the monitor.

I'd also go ryzen as when you have a load of background stuff running it'll be better (and in the future)

The 7700K out-performs all the Ryzen CPUs in gaming benchmarks, and I don't really plan on running that many things in the background. Any other arguments for Ryzen in the gaming context?

You left me no reason for the HDD.

The monitor you picked has Freesync, which I believe that it doesn't work with Nvidia cards.

And I chose the monitor according to your "take on the monitor". 27", 1440p, 144hz, IPS, and G-sync.

Huh, didn't see the Freesync part, cheers.

I like the monitor you chose, but the monitor will inevitably be one of the more expensive pieces with little difference between similar specs across brands, so it'll be down to sales more than anything. Thanks for the recommendation.
