7870 isn't currently the strongest of graphics cards to date on the market. You'd get away with playing at medium to low with many of your settings turned down to a minimum. 2Gb frame buffer is more than enough on most modern titles.

I currently have a placeholder graphics card (6750) and It plays bf3 on high 60fps 1280x720 but only on low 1920x1080.

The 7870 is quite a bit better than this card but I would recommend going with something like a 270.

p.s. I have a 3570k

RIP in pepperonis m8s

You're spending too much on the cpu/mobo if what you want is gaming performance.

You shoudl really be pouring a good chunk of your money on the gpu. As a rule of thumb for gaming builds, the gpu should generally cost around as much or more than your cpu + mobo.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
