Hey guys, first time user and don't really know where else to go for my issue. So I recently finished building my pc and noticed a high pitched sound whenever I move my mouse. I was thinking that it was most likely coil whine coming from either the motherboard or psu. I replaced my psu and still noticed the coil whine noise persist. Also, a side note, when I have my computer speakers plugged in and turned on, there is also coil whine coming from the speakers as well as the sub. I've been thinking that I might have some sort of ground loop problem in my outlets that is causing the coil whine in my pc and speakers.

PC specs:

cpu: i3 6100

gpu: gigabyte rx 460 4gb

psu: evga 430w

Speakers: Logitech z533

Thanks.

Hissing from the speakers is probably from a low quality audio solution on board, try getting a sound card if you wanna try to fix it. I'm not sure why the coil whine would only happen when you use your mouse but it could be from the video card updating the display, EVERYTHING in your PC that needs a regulated voltage that isn't 5v, 3.3v or 12v will have inductors, and they can make noise, the motherboard, PSU and Video card are just the usual suspects, HDDs and other things can also make it.

Yours faithfully

It's possible that it's from your combination of board and PSU. My laptop has high pitched whining sounds coming out of the speakers and audio out whenever I use a third party adapter. It's going to be hard to diagnose which combination of parts is causing the whine without a pile of spare parts.

Well I tried hooking up my speakers to my phone and there is still hissing. So I think it could be bad speakers or ground loop issue. I have a mini itx board, but I took the gpu out and I still hear coil whine. Thanks for the quick reply.

Does any other computer in your house do this, I have come across if there is power fluctuation in the mains power supply to your house it can cause coil whine

I don’t have any other PCs I could test, but I love in an apartment so I don’t know if that is a problem.

If they're powered speakers it is possible the supply for them is just low quality or lacks serious mains filtering, not much can be done about that, I'd say it's either the board or PSU but really I wouldn't worry about it unless it's super bad.

Do you have any recommendations for computer speakers? I thought the Logitech ones I picked up were pretty good.

They should be goodish for the price, there is a lot going on of course, the mains 50hz/60hz could be coming through by capacitance, it could be RF interferance, it could be a fault or a leaky cap in the power supply for them, I'm not an audiophool or audio expert, so I don't think I can recommend anything, I use Meze headphones and a random pear of Creative speakers, so my tastes aren't super high end (Ok yes the Meze headphones are but I love wood and good build quality)

Yours faithfully
