will an amd an a nVidia gpu work together on the same motherboard? im just using an AMD Radeon RX 580 and a gtx 1080 for EXAMPLE. Will they work or do you need the same type of gpu's?

Yes, but you can't use SLI/Crossfire with the two cards. You can, however, use Multi-GPU for supported games (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support)

They won't run SLI/Cross fire, but there is an LTT video about running an AMD and Nvidia card in the same system, if you want to swap between them for some reason.

Sync RGB fans with motherboard RGB header.

The only game where they will work together is ashes. And you might see worse performance than from just a 1080 in that.
