Wifi hotspot project

I have a project i want to start. Not sure how I can do it, but let me explain my idea. I live in a apartment building and I'm pretty far away from the router of the building. I want to have a receiver antenna pick up the WiFi signal, and be able rebroadcast it in my small apartment. Saturating the room in the WiFi. I thought I could use the network bridge mode on my old laptop and use an old router to rebroadcast it, but didnt work... thats long and the short of it, i dont know how to explain it any better without sounding redundant. I hope someone can help me with this.

Thank you. But i think i might need to make a more robust system. the hotspot strength in my apartment is pretty weak. I'm on the 3rd floor while the router is in the basement or first floor somewhere... I thought i would have to create a powerful receiver antenna (with a lot of gain) and aim it toward the hotspot router.
