Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD worth it?

If you're using the ssd as a steam library and boot drive, just get an 850 evo, NVMe doesn't improve boot times or app launch times.

Hey guys,

 

I currently have this Kingston SSD as an OS drive, which isn't much faster than my HDD. I also got another 512 GB Samsung 850 EVO, which is faster (currently have my steam games on it, because Ark and PUBG runs much better on an SSD).

 

My laptop is currently bottlenecked by the SSHD which is in it, so I am thinking about putting the 850 EVO into my laptop and buying another SSD and there comes my question.

Would a Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD be worth it? or should I get another 512 GB 850 EVO? 960 Evo costs 220€ while the 850 EVO just costs 160€. The only thing is, that the 960 EVO is much faster, but is it worth it?

I currently also just only have a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Mainboard which just has an PCIe 2.0 (2 lanes) connector.

 

I dont know what I should get. The 960 EVO seems maybe more futureproof, but on the other hand I don't think it would make a big difference, also considering the price difference.

What speeds could I even expect with the older M.2 connector? Also don't think I will be upgrading my Mainboard in the near future, because the i7-4790K @ 4.00Ghz should do fine in future games.

Oh, u are right. Just searched for SSD and picked the first that looked like mine ;)

The 

 

If the 960 doesnt improve anything I'll get the 850 EVO.
